As the originator and sole marketer of Terminox® water filtration devices, we have compared them to virtually all other types of filters. We also sell these other types of filters as well. They usually say it works better than all others. But they have no experience will all the other ones, but we do.

    • We would first need to know exactly what’s going on with your water. If you go to https://waterfiltersofamerica.com/water-filter-faqs-water-softener-frequently-asked-questions/
and look at items 7, 16, and 17, that’ll be all the info we need on your water to recommend the proper equipment. Our iron filters vary in price depending on your flow rate. Very minimal plumbing is required. Some of our iron filters require no filters, chemicals, or maintenance; they’re set ’em and forget ’em. Most customers who purchase equipment are able to install themselves. Give us a call at 1-800-684-0979 for more assistance. Thank you.

  2. i have well water primarily lime stone formation, smelly (rotten eggs) if the water is not used regularly. This is at a lake cabin. any suggestion would be appreciated.

  3. We are interested in a water filter to reduce the iron content in the water at our cabin. Our well was tested and found that the iron content was 3 PPM. The pH of the water is 6.6. The well flow rate is 12.5 gpm. The house is not continually used and is on a septic system. We have noticed sediment build up in fixtures and would like to know what the best filtration system would be to reduce the iron and sediment and improve the taste.

Thanks for any recommendations you can provide.

    • Don,

Thank you for your eloquently stated question. Firstly, when you say your flow rate is 12.5, did you use the instructions on our FAQs page to determine that? If you have not, it is important to be sure you do it that way BEFORE you continue with filter sizing. Do not use numbers from others, such as well drillers and plumbers. Well drillers are usually speaking of a “Recovery” or “Production” rate when they say flow rate. That is not the one we need to use. Plumbers are usually speaking of a “Service rate”, which is simply filling a bucket from a random faucet and timing it. This is normally NOT correct either. You can see instructions on how to perform a proper flow rate test under item #7 on this page:
You should also read items numbered 16 and 17 on that page as well, anytime you are diagnosing what you need for a private well. Hopefully you are not giving us numbers for testing from an in-home sales company, plumbers or well drillers. If you are, read item number 16 on the page we gave you a link to above. It will tell you how to get a free independent water test. Or you can send a sample to one of our labs for FREE testing. You just want to be sure the numbers are correct before you buy any filter.
Assuming you have a pH of 6.6 for your raw untreated well water, you will have to raise it before you can properly remove the iron using ANY iron filter. Beware of anyone who does not raise the pH before filtering. Anyone who tells you that you don’t need to either does not know what they are doing, or does not have your best interest in mind. The least expensive method to raise the pH is about $425. There are a number of ways to do it, but that is normally the least expensive. Please feel free to call and speak with a friendly water tech about this if you like. In most cases the iron is easily removed with no chemicals, salt or maintenance. While we carry over 40 different iron filters, out Terminox is the most popular because it is very powerful and does not require, salt, chemicals or maintenance normally. That is a good filter for seldom used facilities, such as cabins, as well.
It is our opinion that you should not drink acidic water. While the EPA makes the minimum 6.5 for safe drinking water, we find that is a very aggressive water. We think the pH should be a LEAST 7.0 or higher normally. We would suggest drinking bottled water while you are figuring this out. But don’t worry, it is easy and inexpensive to fix the type of water you describe. We hope you find this information helpful. Please call and speak with a friendly water tech at 800-684-0979 when you have a moment. Don’t worry, they won’t ask you to buy anything or pressure you in any way. They will just answer your questions and give you great advice.
      Take care

  4. Hot water Iron 1.5 Hardness10
    Softner Iron 0.3 Harness 2grains
Raw Well Iron 2.5 Hardness 20
What can we do for this to clean up the smell, and hardness ?

    • Hi Jim,

From what numbers you have given it seems pretty obvious that this will be fairly simple and inexpensive to correct.

You have not stated what the smell is. What does it smell like please? You also have not included a pH value or flow rate. All of this information is easy to collect from around the home. You should not buy anything from anyone without first obtaining this information. The only numbers that truly matter at this point are the numbers for your raw untreated water BEFORE it goes through any water softeners or water filters of any kind.

In order for us to help you properly we would need you to gather the information requested under items 7, 16 and 17 on this page:
It should only take a few minutes around the house to get us what we need. Once you have that information, please contact us again and we can tell you EXACTLY what you need and EXACTLY what it will cost. And you can be SURE it will work. Most people are pleasantly surprised how low priced our solutions are. Any company that doesn’t insist on this information is not doing it correctly or they are likely selling marginal products. You simply must have this information to do it correctly, and have it work correctly, right from the start.
Please don’t hesitate to give us a quick call at 800-684-0979 to discuss your water treatment issues. Keep in mind our friendly water technicians are not allowed to ask you to buy anything or pressure you in ANY way. They just answer your questions and give you great advice. We are the online leader for water treatment worldwide. We set the standard for all others to follow.

      We appreciate your patience.

      Thank you

    • If the rotten egg smell is sulfur then it is hydrogen sulfide. This is caused by having sulfates in the water and a bacteria forms in the well and eats those sulfates and causes that gas. You can also get that rotten egg smell from other things such as manganese. Manganese and sulfur are often treated in different ways. Even though we do have some really cool backwashing filters such as our Terminox® ISM filter that removes iron, manganese, sulfur, dirt etc. Please don’t hesitate to call our 800-number and speak with one of our friendly text about this sort of issue. 800-684-0979
