Local water treatment dealers and vendors want your cash. And a lifetime of expensive service calls.
How many expensive house calls will a local vendor set you up with?

And while we can always recommend someone in your area to help install. Having someone come into your private home to sell you water equipment, is usually the first and most common mistake a local private homeowner can make. They are immediately setting themselves up for a “Dog and Pony Show” that usually results in a quote of $4000 to $10,000 dollars for water treatment equipment that should only cost a fraction of that.

Be wary of high pressure salesmen coming into your private home.

And these people usually get into your home by saying they need to come and do a free water test. They send out a “Water Tester”. In reality, it is a water treatment salesperson who works on commission. The more he sells, the more he makes. He is rarely a water expert or water testing expert. In fact, most of these people know little about actual water chemistry and proper solutions.

What they are skilled at is selling you water treatment systems that will eventually require ongoing maintenance and expense. Most will call a water softener (any salt using appliance) a water conditioner, or water purification system. Many will sell you a water softener and not bother to tell you that you can’t drink the water that comes from the softener. Or they will sell you a water softener and tell you it also removes iron, which is one of the most common tricks that they will use. You should NEVER use a water softener as an iron filter on a private well.
